  • server shares can be accessed from the XP workgroup computer using unc paths if domain credentials are supplied
  • XP workgroup computer shares can be accessed from the server however there is a local security setting that can be adjusted to allow people to log on as guests or themselves (“Network access: sharing and security model for local accounts”) also under ‘user rights assignment’ in secpol.msc ensure the everyone group is present in “Access this computer from the network” and absent from “deny access to this computer from the network.” Try adding and removing relevant user account from these policies also try enabling netbios over tcp/ip in internet protocol/properties/advanced/wins tab.
